Poetry is a gift in stringed nocturnal dungeons,
A flaming gift, unyielding, unforeseen.
Wise nature stripped me bare of all that I possessed,
Took talents, clamorous like silver coins.
I lean out of my tower into the desert
And summon memories of stairs in bloom
That I ascended once with my laborious fiddle
To govern over waves, to rule the world.
Thus in my youth I strove towards the madness,
I drove my lore into the utter dark,
So that the graceful flower of poetry
Could feed on it as on its native soil.
