Message to Siberia

Deep down in the Siberian mine,
Keep up your long-enduring pride;
Your mournful toil is not in vain,
Nor thoughts that rapturously ride.

Misfortune’s sister, Hope, is true,
And in the subterranean night
Shall waken courage and delight.
The welcome day shall dawn for you.

Friendship and love shall gather round
And through the gloomy bars shall go;
To you who labour to and fro
My liberating voice shall sound.

From you shall drop the heavy chain;
The walls shall crumble, Liberty
At the gate greet you joyfully,
Brothers give you your swords again.
